Hiring "Overqualified" Candidates

Why Season Employees Can Be Your Best

Nov 27, 2018

In the staffing industry, submitting seasoned candidates can be a tricky proposal to clients.  Employers fear a more experienced person won’t stay long in a lower income or temp-to-hire situation.  There’s a concern that someone considered “overqualified” will grow restless and bored if they are placed in a less challenging environment.  Managers might also express concern that an employee who has been in the workforce for some time could lack the flexibility to come up with a new and fresh approach to the task at hand.  Whatever the objection, hiring seasoned or overqualified candidates can be a tremendous benefit for a company.

For nearly 40 years, Lofton Staffing has been placing employees in a myriad of industries, and the one thing we have learned is that the right candidate for the job isn’t determined solely by their level of experience.  It is rather the one who is eager for the chance to contribute and grow with a company that will make the best fit.  Could that person be someone who has already spent years gaining skills and knowledge?  Absolutely.  An employee with less experience can often come in at the ground level and be molded to fit the job, but it is a mistake to dismiss the possibility that a more seasoned candidate might just add a new dimension to the position, and as a result, boost the performance of the whole business.

Additionally, Lofton recruiters spend time getting to know their candidates.  This commitment to developing a deeper relationship with each person is why many employers seek out the assistance of a staffing firm.  We are able to bring so much more to the table than just words on a resume.  For instance, what motivates the employee?  What goals do they have?  How willing are they to go the extra mile for their employer?  By doing this, the recruiters are able to pair the right candidate with the right client.  In some cases, the right candidate is the one considered overqualified on paper, but who has the work ethic and drive to succeed at any job.  Lofton recruiters strive not just to provide your business with anyone; they strive to provide your business with the right one!

We Believe...

Relationships are built…one on one.
Know your people - match interest and talents to the tasks.
Don’t manage by numbers. (They just show if we’re on track.) People do the work.
People should feel better when they leave than when they came – and in turn we feel better.
When we help others, we help ourselves.
Great expectations: fair pay, fair treatment, teach me.
Have fun…and be better.
Work at having fun (51% of the time.) If you don’t feel it, fake it. Having fun is not slacking off. Work is more natural than play.
